    9th May

Mothers’ Day is this weekend so today we ensured that our Toddlers mothers would receive a big bouquet of flowers to make her smile on Sunday morning.  A green handprint from Favourite Toddler made the stems for five paper flowers with the palm of the hand nestled happily on a paper vase.  Over tea and coffee much discussion was given to this morning’s CBC broadcast of “The Current” which featured a parenting special entitled “All joy and no fun” (click here to catch up on it if you missed it).  It clearly provided much food for thought and chewable crust for debate. We read Julia Donald and Alex Schaffer’s delightful book “Monkey Puzzle” at circle time which ironically brought up more discussion about parenting roles after Baby Monkey finally found his Mum… and Dad.

“Changes in the last half century have radically altered the roles of today’s mothers and fathers, making their mandates at once more complex and far less clear” (Senior, 2014). Discuss.
